Cardinals Gather To Elect New Pope

Cardinals have gathered in Rome to elect a new Pope and will begin voting later with no clear frontrunner to take over as head of the Roman Catholic Church. The 115 cardinal-electors will go to the Sistine Chapel where they will take an oath of secrecy before they begin their secret deliberations this afternoon. The Cardinals will vote four times a day until the election of the new pope which will be signaled by white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel chimney. After this there will be a short delay before his identity is finally revealed to the world. In an interview with Citi News Archbishop of Accra Palmer Buckle gave an insight into what will happen in the conclave. The cardinals meet in conclave and pray to God for guidance. Then they have serious discussions about the religious situation of the world, the social and political challenges and the moral issues involved and on the basis of that look amongst themselves and elect who they think would be the right person With the prayer support of one billion Catholics, it is impossible to go wrong, he added.
