A former Chief of Staff in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has asked government to stop going in circles and admit that Jubilee house is a more appropriate name to be given to the Presidential palace. The presidential palace which is the current seat of government was reconstructed by the erstwhile Kufuor administration and christened Golden Jubilee House to remind Ghanaians of the country�s Golden Jubilee. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) changed it to flagstaff house because they felt Golden Jubilee House was not appropriate. However, in what can be considered as a turn around, the NDCs Mahama- led administration has gone back to the name Jubilee House but this time around, have modified it to �Jubilee Flagstaff House�. Speaking in an interview with the Minister of Information and Media Relations on Peace FM, he could not say when the name was changed but added that the two separate names were married together to satisfy both parties (NPP and NDC) and to promote unity. Interacting with Shamima Muslim in an interview on Citi FM�s eye witness news Wednesday evening, Kwadwo Mpiani said if the current name will teach the current and incoming generation of the country�s historical values �then it�s okay. If not the Jubilee House should be maintained because it reminds us of when the country celebrated its Golden Jubilee�. �I just don�t understand what it means. If we have now realised that it is good to call it a Jubilee House, let�s be honest to call it Jubilee House. The whole idea of calling it a jubilee house was because it was built during the country�s Golden Jubilee and it was done for historic reasons. Let�s be bold and honest to call it jubilee house if we have now decided to put partisan politics aside�� he hinted. The former Chief of Staff is of the view that the current name; Jubilee Flagstaff House is not apt and does not carry any meaning. �I don�t know what flagstaff house means. In our history, what does flagstaff house means? I just don�t understand it and I don�t think it means anything�� he mentioned.
