NDC MP: Some Pastors Are Politicking With The Israel Trip

The Member of Parliament for Takyiman South Constituency, Hon. Agyei Mensah has indicated that those commenting about the Israel trip have political spectacles, describing some of the pastors disconcerting this trip as politicians whose politicization of the issue will have future recoil on the clergy in terms of diplomatic attention. He added that those politicizing the issue should look into the future because if government should facilitate the trip for the clergy now, it will make travelling for the same purposes in future easy; in that diplomacy at the government level to facilitate the trip to Israel is very easy as compared to individuals. Speaking on Okay FMs Ghana Decides program, the NDC Member of Parliament said that during the Muslim Hajj Pilgrimage, NPP played its role when it was in power; adding that as politicians, no matter what there must be some form of assistance to institutions in the country. He reiterated that as a government in power, the focus should not be on a particular institution but added that government must share to cover all other institutions, hence the governments involvement in the pastors trip to Jerusalem. He recounted that there are certain institutions in this country whose contribution to the progress of the nation cannot be quantified but according to him they play a vital role to assist the government; stressing that whenever the Muslims travel to Mecca to pray for their families, they offer prayers for Ghana as well. He said that; if there are civil wars and riot around our neighboring countries, Ghana is always at peace, it is not because God loves Ghana but rather it is the hard work which has brought the peace the country is enjoying now, adding that as this trip has been politicized by some pastors and the main opposition party NPP, in the future Ghanaians will realize that President Mahama meant well for the clergy. According to him, if the government buys cars for the regional house of chiefs to facilitate their activities, the idea is not to receive direct benefit from them but to him the chiefs help to strengthen the democracy in the country, indicating that; as a government, your responsibilities must cover other institutions in the country and every policy must start from a small beginning. He further stated that, the government cannot meet every institution need but can assist them; stressing that the President is trying his best to address all the problems the institutions are going through including the teachers and other bodies in the country.
