Mad Rush For NDC Posts...Kofi Adams To Challenge His Boss

The race for national executive officers for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) promises to be interesting, with some names popping up as likely contenders for key and influential positions in the party. Information gathered by Daily Guide indicates that some individuals including the Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Kofi Portuphy, are lacing their boots to contest the incumbent National Chairman of the party, Kwabena Adjei, for the position. The name of aide to former President Rawlings, Kofi Adams, who was recently reinstated as Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, has also popped up as one of those gearing up to challenge his immediate boss, Johnson Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito, for the position of General Secretary. Some of these individuals are said to have adopted various strategies to begin underground campaigns including meeting people at the branch and constituency levels to inform them of their intentions. This comes barely two weeks after the announcement of the time table for branch, constituency and national elections which are expected to be completed by November 2013. Other positions likely to witness hot contests are those of National Youth Organiser and Propaganda Secretary. Incumbent National Youth Organiser of the NDC, who was Presidential aide in the administration of the late President Mills, Ludwig Hlordze, may have to have to brace himself for what promises to be a hot contest from his closest contender in the last congress of the party held in 2010, Sidii Abubakar Musah, a former aide to the wife of the NDC founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. Siidi seems to be worming his way into the hearts of the partys youth in the wake of massive agitations of neglect from most NDC youth for the past four years. There are however said to be talks between Ludwig Hlordze and Sidii Abubakar to try to reach a compromise. It is however not clear if either of the two would be ready and willing to yield to appeals to step down for the other to go. Another position which is also up for grabs is that of National Propaganda Secretary, a position currently occupied by Richard Quashigah who is now the Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta. With Quashigah in Parliament and the perception that the secretariat has become weak for the past four years, many names are coming up for the position. These include that of vociferous NDC youth activist Sacut Ameng-Etego, Ras Mubarak and Peter Boamah Otukunor who are said to be ready to contest incumbent Deputy Propaganda Secretary, Solomon Nkansah who is also eyeing the position. The only position that appears to be quite safe for now, as no names have popped up as contenders, is National Organizer which is currently being occupied by the controversial Yaw Boateng Gyan.
