Upper West Regional Secretariat of the PNC has learnt with a great sense of bitterness and shame comments made by Mr Atik Mohammed on the strike embarked on by teachers across the country.
According to the PNC secretariat, �As a young man desirous of seeing the growth and progress of our dear nation Ghana, one would have expected that Atik would exhibit a high sense of patriotism and nationalism on the current impasse between the government and teachers by proposing possible solutions to the crisis.�
Rather, he chose to, as usual, play stomach politics by encouraging the teachers to continue with the strike until their demands and grievances were met by the government, a statement issued by the secretariat pointed out.
According to the statement, signed by Mr Issahaque Awudulai, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the PNC, it was common knowledge that strikes or industrial actions were not exclusive to any one particular political regime, as they cut across all regimes.
�As such, for Atik to have sunk so low to view the crisis with partisan lens really begs the point,� it indicated.
In the view of the PNC, the current strike by teachers would leave in its trail dire consequences that would affect all and sundry, irrespective of political orientation.
Better still, the students who were about to write their WASSCE and BECE were just pursuing their educational goals and should not be subjected to political bias at this stage of their academic pursuits, it said.
�As a political party committed to offering opportunities for all manner of persons to pursue their goals and realise their potential to the fullest, we deem it necessary to clear the air on the comments that Atik made as the Policy Analyst of the PNC,� the statement added, and implored the good people of Ghana to disregard the comments and focus energies on helping get the teachers back into the classrooms for smooth and effective academic work.
�We equally plead with the teachers to let some level of consensus prevail in an effort to resolve the deadlock that has hit the educational system. Government should, as a matter of urgency, engage GNAT, NAGRAT and TEWU in feasible negotiations to save the students in first and second-cycle institutions from any further trauma as a result of the strike,� it concluded. -
