Ministers Boy Nabbed

Francis Dodovi, Spokesperson of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong was arrested by the police last week. News of his arrest spread like fire across the Garden City, with people giving different accounts of the incident. Reports suggested that Dodovi committed some crimes which led to his arrest by the police. Others claimed Dodovi violated a road regulation and was chased by a police patrol team in a Hollywood fashion in his car. Dodovi, according to some residents, was detained for several hours by the police. However in an interview with Kessben FM, Dodovi, confirmed that he was indeed arrested by the police. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) member denied claims that he committed a crime, stressing that he was not placed in custody for several hours. Setting the records straight, he said the incident took place after he returned to Kumasi from Accra where he attended the vetting of Samuel Yaw Adusei, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister. He said while driving his unregistered Toyota saloon car, he met a police patrol team which had barricaded the road. He said about 25 policemen instantly arrested him for driving an unregistered car, adding so they hauled me to the Zongo police station for questioning. Dodovi, who realized he had flouted the law, noted that he quietly followed the well-armed policemen to the station. He said after the documents covering his vehicle were checked, the policemen set him free, saying I spent just 30 minutes at the station. Dodovi also debunked rumours that he fiercely exchanged words with the police personnel, saying who am I to do that. The NDC man noted that the police were doing the right thing to help curb crime in the city and also used the occasion to urge the public to support the police to help maintain law and order in Kumasi and other towns.
