Prez Mahama Was Only Seeking Undeserved Glory For Himself NPP Communicator

A member of the Communication team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan has indicated that President Mahamas meeting with leaders of the teachers and other stake holders in education was to seek undeserved glory for himself. According to him, the President should not have intervened because earlier, the Ministry of Education and the National Labour Commission as well as the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) had held meetings with the striking teachers and were almost tying the loose ends. The Minister of Education and other stakeholders were trying their best to resolve the issue; but President Mahama wants Ghanaians to see that he was the one who told the teachers to go back to the classroom and so he had to organise a meeting President John Dramani Mahama met with leaders of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and various stakeholders in education to find a lasting solution to the grievances of the striking teachers. NAGRATS, GNAT and TEWU a week ago, went on strike over issues on conditions of services as well as discrepancies in the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). At the meeting the President pleaded with the teachers to put the nation first and go back to the classroom. The teachers therefore held a press conference on Tuesday and suspended their strike action and ordered teachers all over the country to go back to the classroom. Contributing to panel discussions on Wednesdays edition of Kokrokoo with host Kwami Sefa-Kayi, Kwamena Duncan stated: What did he add to itI can assure you that he was only seeking to appropriate some undeserved glory to himself. The ministry was waiting for the results of the consultations of the various councils and they were at the verge of solving the issue. All we heard was that the President wants to meet the leadership of the teachers; and I was asking myself: what for? Kwamena Duncan alluded that because President Mahama knows he is not working to improve the difficult conditions of Ghanaians, he is just calling for meetings with various groups including the teachers so that Ghanaians will see that he is working. According to him, the President should stop the various meetings and consultations and get on the field for that is where the work should take place. All you do is to summon people and to tell them you are not happy? Roll up your sleeves and work. Not just meeting people. Get on the fields and solve the problems. In looking at what happened, my only conclusion was that; this is a non-performing president and now that he is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel; he must come to share in the glory and so quickly he calls for a meeting (with the teachers)nothing new was said Kwamena Duncan said curtly.
