Kumasi Goes Gay

A SPONTANEOUS UPROAR erupted in Kumasi on Tuesday night following the announcement that Joseph Yammin, the Ashanti Regional NDC Scribe, has been nominated for the post of Deputy Youth and Sports Minister by President John Mahama. People affiliated to the ruling party in the region had been expecting Mr. Yammin, their political idol, to land a ministerial position following his untiring efforts for the party in the last polls. His appointment, which was announced late in the night, spread like wild fire, as elated party people started calling friends and colleagues to determine the veracity of the interesting news. Wild jubilation therefore erupted among the people after it was confirmed on the various radio stations in the city that indeed Hon. Yammin had been nominated as the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister. There were reports of hundreds of party supporters marching through some streets of Kumasi to express their delight over the good news. Some drove their cars at top speed, amid the blowing of horns deep in the night, which attracted curious people to the streets to witness the spectacle. However, some fans of Yammin waited until Wednesday morning when they called into the morning show programmes of the various radio stations to express their joy over their idols elevation. Most of the people that spoke on radio could not contain their joy, as they thanked President Mahama for ensuring their hearts desire. They also wished Mr Yammin well in his new position. The excited NDC faithful said the elevation of Mr Yammin as a deputy minister would ginger up-and-coming members of the NDC across the country to work hard for the party since they had realized their efforts for the party would be rewarded. Mr. Yammin, without doubt, is the pillar of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the opposition NPP. He had widely been credited for the NDCs extraordinary performance in the region in the last polls which helped the party to retain power. Some few weeks ago, some irate Zongo members of the NDC threatened to burn the billboards of President Mahama in the area if he failed to appoint the NDC regional scribe as minister. Mr. Yammin, who did not side with these Zongo faithful of the party, quickly came out strongly to condemn those threatening to cause confusion in the party, stressing that the NDC was bigger than the personal interest of any member of the party. Daily Guide gathered also that some excited NDC fans that recently threatened not to campaign again for the party in the region, had now changed their minds following the elevation of Mr. Yammin.
