Three religious leaders have urged Ghanaians to use the celebration of Easter to rise above the challenges of the time and become better people. They said the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter offered the opportunity for hope, as the death of Christ meant burying the past, while His resurrection meant a new beginning. The three, the Most Rev Joseph Osei-Bonsu, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference; Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, the General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, and the Most Rev Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, made the call in separate Easter messages to Ghanaians in Accra yesterday. In his message, the Most Rev Osei-Bonsu said Ghanaians should rise from their shortcomings to become better people in a better nation devoid of dissension and �a country where people can always live in peace and harmony�. He reminded Ghanaians that Easter was about the resurrection of Christ, who died for the sins of mankind, hence the need for everyone to avoid sin and do things that would benefit their neighbours and please God. �I ask all Ghanaians to remember our country in their prayers, so that peace will reign in Ghana,� he said. For his part, Apostle Antwi urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful, whatever the situation they found themselves in. �I encourage Ghanaians to remain hopeful in whatever situation they are in. They should never give up. There is hope for all,� he said . Apostle Antwi reminded Ghanaians that the celebration of Easter commemorated the death and resurrection of the Lord and Saviour of mankind and said that resurrection symbolised hope, hence the need for Ghanaians to be confident. He also urged Ghanaians to use the occasion to draw closer to God, who is the source of life and all things. Apostle Antwi used the occasion to entreat all political office holders to be faithful and committed to whatever assignment they had been called to perform. On the election petition before the Supreme Court, he urged Ghanaians not to panic and trust that the justices of the Supreme Court would do a good job. He, therefore, admonished Ghanaians not to put undue pressure on the justices of the Supreme Court. The Most Rev Prof Asante said Easter meant newness, as the resurrection of Jesus Christ gave the opportunity for everyone to begin a new life. He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to look at their past that was dead and look at the new opportunity for a new beginning that the resurrection of Christ offered. �Let us, in the spirit of oneness characterised by justice, peace and love for one another, build our nation Ghana,� he said.
