NDC Government Should Pay Interest for Not Paying Workers on Time

A member of the NPP communication team, Hopeson Adoryeh has charged that the NDC government should pay arrears of the civil servants and the public workers with interest for delaying the payment. To him some of the workers may have gone for loans from banks to take care of their families which they have to pay back with interest. According to him, the NDC government is stealing from the Public workers as government is investing with their monies which would give them some interest, and so to him the NDC government is cheating on the workers for not paying interest to them. Speaking as a panelist on Okay FM, the NPP communicator said that the minimum wage should take effect the first day of January every year and so if the government has delayed in paying the workers, it should pay for the interest accumulated, adding that the prices of goods in the market have gone up and those workers who took loans from the bank over the years will pay back with interest. He hinted that all the workers are laying down their tools not because they are not interested to work but because what is due them have not been given; reminding them that everything started during the 2012 elections when the NDC campaigned that they will take good care of the workers, and as they assumed office everything has changed. He again said that the NDC government as part of their achievement in 2008 stated that the lives of the public sector workers are better with the implementation of the single spine; stressing that this statement by the NDC has compelled the rest of the public workers who have not received their portion of the spine to make demands.
