Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana�s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has reiterated the commitment of the Convention People�s Party (CPP) to enhance the progress of the economy when voted into power. CPP on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 emerged winner in the bye-election held at Kumbungu constituency in the Northern Region, when it pitched its candidate, Amadu Yahya, against Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kpagu of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the contest. The victory is seen by the party and Samia Nkrumah, who is also the Chairperson of the party, as a unique opportunity to get the CPP into Parliament. According to the Chairperson, the new representation of the party in the legislative body would help the party to present its virtues to the Ghanaian citizenry in order to gain their acceptance at the helm of affairs in the nation. Touching on the prospects of the party, Samia Nkrumah said the opportunity given to the party by virtue of the victory chalked by its Parliamentary representative, Hon. Yahya, provides a platform for the party to showcase itself. She said the party�s entry into Parliament proves that its members are keen on developing the country and therefore appealed to Ghanaians to trust them. She emphasized the mission of the party, saying �we have a mission to bring back the way Kwame Nkrumah told and practised politics and we will never rest until we fulfil that mission. Until the basic needs of our people are met, we will never rest. Our mission is incomplete...We want Ghanaians to trust us because we are going nowhere. We want Ghanaians to trust.� She further explained the principles of the Convention People�s Party (CPP). She asked Ghanaians to trust the CPP; "We want to gain our people�s confidence, so that they allow us to become even bigger decision-makers. I have no doubt. It is inevitable that people will see how we work; what we are capable of doing, how sincere we are. This is what we need in Ghana". �We need to be in Parliament because we are independent-minded. We speak our mind. We vote according to our conscience and what is in the interest of our people. We don�t mind if we are going to be penalized for that but we want to remain a voice of truth and courage. Ghana needs us. Ghana needs politicians who vote according to their conscience.� She also stated that the CPP is focused on impacting lives in the country, therefore restating its position as selfless and ready to regain the confidence of the masses. �We have something to say. We have something to offer. Our People are development-oriented. We know we must make an impact in our people�s lives. So, it�s not for any egotistical reasons that we want to be in Parliament,� she concluded.
