Customers Wont benefit from NCA fine

Principal Manager of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Kwame Baah Achanfour, has said customers of the five telecommunication operators who were fined GHC900, 000 for providing poor service, would not benefit from the monies collected. According to Mr. Achanfour, sometimes, there are compensation schemes that come across board for some service providers when the situation is such that we can really identify who to give those compensations to. Five, out of the six telecom operators in Ghana, have been slapped with a total of GHC 900,000 in fines for providing poor services to their consumers. The National Communication Authority (NCA) said the five; MTN, TIGO, Glo, Airtel and Expresso provided services below the set benchmark for quality service in the first quarter of this year. MTN and Glo received the heaviest fine of GH300,000 each. The three others, Airtel, Tigo and Expresso, were all GHC100,000 fine each. Among some of the areas the operator failed to impress are call congestion, Call Setup Time among others in the Northern, Eastern Regions, Volta, Ashanti, Upper East and West regions. Vodafone is the only operator that was found to be in compliance with all parameters of the Quality of service standards.
