Fire Outbreaks: There Must Be Purpose Marketing - Kofi Jumah

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has asked government to encourage purpose marketing to help in reducing the rate of fire outbreaks in our markets. According to him, when there is purpose marketing, it will allow easy access to facilities in the markets especially for the fire tenders who will be finding it difficult to enter the markets. We must create special purpose markets where there will be a designated place for selling vegetables; groceries, cosmetics and so on. We can even have a shoe market. If want to buy groceries, there is a place you should go and so on To make the purpose marketing more efficient, he says government should be able to also create plans for various markets before traders start using it so that structures will not be constructed any how living no space. He was speaking to the recent fire outbreak at Kantamanto and Sodom and Gomorah. Fire gutted the Kantamanto market in the nations capital, Accra destroying properties worth billions of cedis. Two days earlier a similar fire disaster occurred at Sodom and Gomorrah near the Agbogbloshie market. Giving suggestions to avert such occurrence in the future, Kofi Jumah told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Mondays edition of "Kokrokoo" that if various markets in the country will be well planned and structured with roads and pathways, such fire outbreaks could be avoided. Most of our markets are without plans...there is no laid-out plan or arrangement for the markets and so they construct the building anyhow, leaving no space for vehicle. It could have been worse...but it must be confronted, there must be fire education, he indicated.
