Traders Defy AMA Boss

Traders and residents of Sodom and Gomorrah have spurned a directive from the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye not to reconstruct any structure at the fire scene since investigations are being carried out. This follows separate fire outbreaks that occurred at Sodom and Gomorrah and Kantamanto; all in Accra. Visiting the scene of the fire outbreak which destroyed properties worth billions, and speaking to traders, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss issued a stern warning to inhabitants and traders in the two areas which were gutted by the separate fires not to begin rebuilding their structures. According to him, if they do, it will obstruct investigators from finding out the true cause of the fire. However, when Peace FM reporters visited Kantamanto and Sodom and Gomorrah, traders as well as residents were busily seen putting up structures and filling the stagnant waters with saw dust. One of the traders who also stay at Kantamanto told Peace FMs reporter, Prince Ahenkan that they cannot wait for the AMA boss to finish with his investigations. "Where are we going to stay? This is our home one of them said. Another woman told Peace FMs Obeng Manu, a reporter, that even though she has lost a huge amount of money through the fire outbreak, she cannot sit down and wait for the AMA boss especially considering the fact that she is a young woman and needs to work Why is he asking us to wait? Does he want me to go into prostitution? If not how is he expecting me to survive? she asked.
