Methodist Bishop Is A Hypocrite Charges Former NDC MP

A former Member of Parliament for the Asokwa East Constituency (now Asawasi), has challenged the Bishop of the Obuasi Methodist Diocese, Rt. Rev. Stephen Richard Bosomtwi-Ayensu, to make clear who truly fitted the title of Asomdweehene. Alhaji Moro Mohammed said he was at a loss as to why the Man of God had turned partisan with his claim of who best qualified to be called Asomdweehene. In April last year, the Methodist Prelate, while speaking at the opening of the 15th Annual Diocesan Synod of the Obuasi Methodist Diocese, called on Ghanaians to stop calling the late Prof J. E. A. Mills, the then, President of the Republic of Ghana, Prince of Peace or Asomdweehene, because such an attribute would only go to incur the wrath of God upon him (President Mills). The Methodist Bishop had supported his claim by quoting Isaiah 42:8 and 48:11, to the effect that God did not want to share his glory with another being, and called on President John Evans Atta Mills to reject the accolade Asomdweehene (Prince of Peace), as the title exclusively belonged to God, and that its usage would only ruin him, since it was tantamount to blasphemous behaviour. The Methodist Bishop then cited the brutal murder of former Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi by rebels, because he referred to himself as King of Kings. Look at Gaddafi, he called himself King of Kings, and his end was not good. We should not seem to forget that Muammar Gaddafis life ended miserably, because he pursued the title King of Kings, Bishop Bosomtwi-Ayensu is reported to have reminded the praise-singers of Professor Mills then. Even though Rt. Rev. Bosomtwi-Ayensu was also reported to have stated that he (Bishop) will not call President Atta Mills Asomdweehene to provoke the curse of God on him, and that those who called him so, were doing him a great disservice, and only praying for his downfall and doom, he over-turned his claim a year later. He now says the title best describes Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, defeated presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), because he was someone who should have been called the real asomdweehene, as reported by a local newspaper, THE PIONEER, of Monday April 8, 2013. Speaking at the inauguration of the Brahabebome Circuit of the Methodist Church at Obuasi, the Methodist Bishop stressed that we are not doing politics here, but if there is any title that best describes Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, then this man must be called the better and original Asomdweehene. According to the Bishop, the current peace being enjoyed in the country should be attributed to the decision by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to resort to the court, instead of exhorting party supporters to violence, hence the plea by the Methodist Bishop to Ghanaians to bestow on Nana Akufo-Addo Asomdweehene, the title which use by a mortal human being he has cautioned against. Alarmed by the Bishops about turn, the former legislator consequently, called on the Methodist Bishop to declare his true position on the usage of the Asomdweehene, in order not to be seen as being a hypocrite.
