Government To Build A City Around Bui Dam

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Jabesh Amissah-Arthur has revealed plans by government to partner the private sector in the construction of the proposed Bui City project. The Model City is expected to enhance cross-border trade and tourism, thus contributing to the country's economy. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show Mr. Amissah-Arthur explained that the government finds it economically reasonable, to open up the opportunity for collaboration in the generation of funds for the project. I think some people imagined that government will go and borrow money and build the city and people will live in it. But right now there is no funding like that from the government and we are not sure that it is the right thing for government to use its money in doing. According to him the idea is to find private investors who will want to locate their industries and so on in that place. Once we have identified those industries, their requirement in terms of housing, recreation will be provided in participation with local and private entrepreneurs. The Bui hydro power project was commissioned last Friday to generate a total amount of 404 megawatts (MG) of power. The plan is expected to augment the power supply in the country.
