Ghanaian Times Editor: We Are Ready To Cooperate With Military

The editor of the Ghanaian Times Newspaper, David Agbenu says his outfit is ready to bury the hatchet with the Military over the assault that took place at the Independence Square in Accra during the 56th celebration of Ghanas independence. During the occasion, some military officers were captured on tape assaulting a journalist of the Ghanaian Times newspaper but a report released by the Military after investigations stated that the officers only used a minimum force in an attempt to maintain order at the parade ground. The report emitted much agitation as some media practitioners sought to punch holes in the Militarys findings. In respect of this, a meeting between the Ghana Journalist Association and the leadership of the Military saw the two agree on common grounds to resolve the conflict. David Agbenu in an interview with Joy FM welcomed the outcome of the meeting and pledged to discontinue the case on condition that the Military honours its promise to compensate the journalist. He was hopeful the Military will keep to the terms in order to settle the issue amicably and revive their mutual relationship with the media. He also asked the Military officers to replace the camera they seized from the journalist when they were caught up in the assault. According to him, the Ghana Times Corporation will only not pursue the issue if the Military live by their word and then compensate and return the camera or replace the camera. Theres no need to pursue any other thing.
