Make Kumasi Safe - Residents Cry

Residents of Kumasi say they are living in fear because of the recent unresolved murders and armed robberies. They say they are worried that in less than a week four people have been gunned down under strange circumstances. On Wednesday, May 8, two people Kwadwo Asamoah, alias Gausu, and Victor Ocran were shot and killed in broad daylight at Ashtown, Kumasi, by unknown assassins. In the night of that same day, Alexander Oduro, a student of the Kumasi Polytechnic, was also murdered at Atonsu. Just last Saturday, at about 11pm, another person, Prince Owusu Antoh, was shot dead at Dark City Pub at Dichemso. Residents are now afraid to go out in the night, especially to drinking spots and food joints. Baffour Kyei, resident of Krofrom, said he does not understand what the criminals are up to. The other time they brazenly took to the streets at the Tech Junction and Ayigya, firing into the air to send people fleeing and now they are shooting us like fowls, he added. Dennis Agyarko, a home appliances dealer at Adum, told GNA: My brother I am scared; it could be anybodys turn at any time. She lamented a recent dawn raid of Modem Filling Station at Santasi by robbers, during which the attackers assaulted the attendants and blotted with about GH6,500. Another resident, Ms Achiaa said: The overall picture is scary. The police should go beyond issuing press statements and arrest the offenders.
