Government has served notice that it will deal with any person or organisation found to have committed any act of malfeasance in the operations of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) programme. Addressing journalists yesterday at the Flagstaff House, a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, said a committee constituted by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, had gone far in its investigations into allegations of corruption into the various modules under the GYEEDA. He said currently people from the government side and the collaborating organisations were being questioned by members of the committee. The formation of the committee followed allegations that some of the companies which had signed contracts with GYEEDA were short-changing beneficiaries of the various modules of the programme. The government is said to be paying a lot for the services of people engaged on the modules under GYEEDA, but the collaborating organisations are said to be giving low allowances and keeping a chunk of the money as management fees. Mr Muhammed said members of the committee were people of high standing in society who were committed to unearthing the truth or otherwise in the allegations. He said the government would terminate the contract of any company that the investigation would prove to be abusing the system. He invited members of the public who had information on the various modules to share it with the committee. The deputy minister affirmed the government's commitment to create jobs for the youth. He explained that it was for that reason that the government had renewed some of the contracts that the previous government signed with Zoomlion and other companies.
