Driver Gives Suspects Away

Two Senior High School (SHS) students and an electrician who were on their way to rob some final year students partying after their examinations last Wednesday have been grabbed by the police. The three, believed to be members of a gang, had boarded a taxi to the party venue but along the journey from Santasi Roundabout towards Ahodwo in Kumasi, the taxi driver overheard them discussing their criminal plans. On reaching the Plus 2 Pub area at Dakwadwom, the driver, whose identity the police have withheld for security reasons, signaled the police on patrol that he was suspicious of his three passengers. The police immediately demanded to search the passengers and they found a locally manufactured pistol and some live cartridges. The police subsequently arrested the three at about 1:25am Asked about what they were doing with the gun, the three said they were on their way to the party venue to rob their colleagues who were celebrating the end of the examinations. A police source how briefed The Finder said the three suspects-Daniel Apushiga, 18, third-year student; Akwasi Damoah, 18, second year student and Denise Kwaku Acheampong, 21, electrician-were said to have also mentioned Samuel Offei, alias Boosy, a student, as the source of the weapon and the instigator of the attack. According to the source, the suspects subsequently led the police to arrest Boosy. All four were as at yesterday morning in the custody of the police for further investigations.
