All Set For Employment Opportunities In Jewellery

The KNUST Jewellery Design and Technology Centre (KJDTC), has taken delivery of several sets of modern computer equipment used to design and manufacture jewellery. The REVO 540CX has been procured by the KNUST Jewellery Centre as a major component of a $1million support from the World Bank and other donor agencies to train 600 goldsmiths and dealers as well as the youth in jewellery manufacturing using the Computer Aided Jewellery Design (CAD). The exclusive configuration of the REVO 540CX allows one to mill virtually any model in a single operation without the hassle of changing fixtures or part position. The set up is easier, models are more precisely done and jobs are completed faster with the REVO 540 CX. In all, 600 Ghanaian goldsmiths are going to be trained using the CAD and REVO 540CX to design and manufacture jewellery and over 3000 youth, made up of senior and junior high school graduates will also undergo training within the next two years. Christopher Darwell and Bradon Huntington of Gemvision Corporation from United Kingdom and USA, were in the country to install the machine and its computer software component as well as the preferred curriculum which will be administered by the KJDTC. The training programme, which is going to be executed mainly in the Ashanti Region and its surrounding districts, is a collaboration between the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) and KNUST Jewellery Design and Technology Centre (KJDTC). The project seeks to target goldsmiths who are not equipped with the technological skills, particularly in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD / CAM) and senior and junior high school graduates who have the basic knowledge in computing to be selected by their respective communities. More than just an equipment provider, Gemvision also offers comprehensive product training all over the world and provides exceptional technical support. The Principal of KJDTC, Mr Joseph Kojo Arthur, said once the set of equipment had been installed with its accompanying software, his outfit would be ready to enrol students and start the training. He assured the public and prospective trainees that he and his team were committed to offering very quality training since it was the maiden edition .
