People Paid Kotoko Players Losing Bonus To Lose Under My Watch - Coach E.K. Afranie

Veteran coach E.K Afranie has revealed massive corruption and collusion during his time with Asante Kotoko. The former national team coach superintended over Kotokos poor run in the CAF Champions League in 2006 where they failed to make it past the group stage of that competition. Amongst the shambolic performance that year include a shocking 4-0 defeat sustained within the first 18 minutes in their away game against Egyptian club Al Ahly. But the veteran coach says forces within were working against his side with a chilling allegation of some offering to pay players to lose matches. This coach Afranie claims was a grand scheme by some people to gain prominence at the club. For those who dont know this is a piece of history for you, he told Kumasi-based Angel FM. Some people colluded against the team especially in that game in Egypt where we conceded four goals within eighteen minutes. There was this one player I will not mention who was just playing it soft for us to lose but once I changed that player things stabilized. We didnt score any goal there but the performance since the substitution was highly commendable. Even in the return leg when we could have scored to progress to the semi finals, these elements were at it again and ensured we drew that game in Obuasi because the Kumasi Stadium was being refurbished. During this period there were even people paying losing bonus to player, it was there. These were elements who undermined management in order for them to get sacked for them to come in. Afranie however adds the so called elements are no longer within the current crop culminating in the sides relative competitiveness this term. However all these elements exited the team when I left and thankfully there is no such people in the current team, he adds. That is good for the club as people have sacrificed for this dear club and continue to bear these sacrifices.
