Wind Afrique Promotes Ghanaian Music In The Diaspora

Wind Afrique is a Ghanaian based band that supports gospel musicians. They help gospel musicians to be more dynamic in their music role, demonstrating the impact of culture on the Ghanaian music. In doing this they have helped several gospel musicians such as Kwesi Sarpong, Akosua Agyapong, Grace Ashy and others. Also the band has launched two albums called Days of Elijah and Mallah which means I will praise him. The band which started eight years ago toured various countries on the grounds of familiarizing with what they called the new style of African flavour (Afro fusion) known to foreign musicians. Their recent tour was made to Europe from April 28 to May 24, where they projected the rich Ghanaian music in several European countries. They mounted various platforms, performing a variety of Afro fusion music which includes a mixture of Highlife, Jazz, Fuji, Adowa, Agbaja, Borborbo and others. Even though the European audiences were not familiar with the Ghanaian dialect, the Band, during the tour, was able to excite them to the extent that it was branded the we want more band. As part of the bands efforts to promote Ghanaian music and culture they had the opportunity to visit some schools where they gave brief talks to students. Favourably, according to Mr. Nii Darko, the leader of the Band, beneficial trends from the tour would help upgrade the work of musicians and individuals who want to know more about Ghanaian music. Hence, in the way forward they recommend that the Copyright Law will be intensified in Ghana to help acknowledge the source of all music. An effective management on this Copyright Law will also serve as an avenue to generate income to help the band as well as the music industry.
