Rawlings Would Not Have Countenanced Chinese Miners Engaging In Galamsey

The current political dispensation and the peace being enjoyed by Ghanaians cannot be spoken of without reference to former President Rawlings and how his leadership capabilities helped shaped the country in that respect, according to a member of the governments communication machinery. Gabby Asumeng believes the ex-President has been consistent with his message on probity, accountability and social justice, since he does not spare his own party when it does go wrong. According to him, if the country had three of his kind then the governance of the nation will be in the right direction, citing the likes of Hon P.C Appiah-Ofori, former Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, who he claims keeps his own party in check when he sees something untoward. Making his submission on Okay fm he said nobody can condemn Rawlings on his activities on probity, accountability and social justice; adding that the nation should collectively realize that the gains of probity, accountability and social justice which Mr. Rawlings introduced in the country is rapidly been eroded. we should reflect and think of our actions which are not helping the progress of the nationwe need to deal with corruption and bribery in the country without politicizing the issueall government institutions need to reflect on their activitiesand come out with solutions which will help make the country a better place, he said. The NDC Communicator, who called on Ghanaians to take lessons from the administration of Mr Rawlings, lamented that indiscipline has become so widespread in the country so much so that foreigners, most especially the Chinese, are now engaging in Galamsey, a phenomenon which the former president would not have brooked. To him, Ghanaians cannot deny the role Mr Rawlings played in our current democratic dispensation, despite the accusation of needless killing of innocent people during his tenure. He finally said that the indiscipline in the country is some of the disadvantages in democracy; adding that since the nation has decided to thread on that path there should be some measures to curtail such things likely to trigger a revolution.
