Zambia Massacre Lesotho To Return To Top Of Group D, Ghana Second

Zambia showed their utmost ambition of edging past Ghana to clinch Group D�s sole ticket to the final phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers when they thumped Lesotho 4-0 in Ndola on Saturday. The results means the Chipolopolo have regained their leadership of the group just 24 hours after Ghana led the standings thanks to their 3-1 thrashing of Sudan. A brace by Holland-based striker Jabob Mulenga and further goals from Chris Katongo and Collins Mbesuma sealed the emphatic victory for Zambia. The 2012 African Champions have 10 points, one more than the Black Stars, after two goals from Jacob Mulenga and one each from Christopher Katongo and Collins Mbesuma earned them a comfortable win. With two rounds of matches remaining it is now a straight fight between Chipolopolo and Ghana to finish top of the group and reach the play-offs as Sudan and Lesotho have been eliminated by their defeats this weekend. The Chipolopolo lost their leadership of the group on Friday after Ghana completed the double over Sudan with a 3-1 win in their World Cup qualifier at the Al Marreikh Stadium in Omdurman. Two goals from captain Asamoah Gyan and a superb strike from Sulley Muntari sealed victory for the Black Stars who played with 10 men for most of the match after the first-half dismissal of Richard Boateng. Friday�s result propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group D, two points ahead of Zambia but having played a game more. Ghana beat Sudan 4-0 in the reverse fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but Friday�s win has threw down the gauntlet to the Zambians who managed to bewilder their opponents Lesotho on Saturdya
