Suhum Road Construction Came To A Halt Because Of Natural Disasters - Anita De Soso

The National Women's Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De Soso has suggested that the completion of the construction of the Accra-Kumasi highway has been greatly hampered due to emergencies that the government had to attend to. According to her, monies allocated for the construction of the trunk road which links the Greater Accra, through the Eastern to the Ashanti Regions, has been stalled because of the various disasters that have rocked the nation. If you are promised of monies to construct the Suhum road and disaster strikes, with fires burning here and there, would you still use the money for the construction of the road or use them on relief items? the NDC womens leader asked on Adom FM. Anita De Soso made these comments during a panel discussion on the action by residences along the highway, whose farmlands and buildings were pulled down to make way for the construction of roads, locked up the offices of the contractor because of governments failure to pay compensation due them. According to the host of the Dwaso Nsem programme on Adom FM, investigations available to the Accra-based radio station indicates that aggrieved residents hide under the cover of darkness to padlock the offices of contractors therefore hindering the progress of works on the road. Though unlawful, the residents have taken to this line of action because of the fact that they have lost hope of getting recompensed, after six years of the demolishing of their buildings and farm lands. Nonetheless, Anita De Soso believes dialogue with the aggrieved parties involved could bring an end to the blockade of contractors office, which is virtually bringing a halt to work on the road. She however was quick to lambast the erstwhile Kufour Administration by questioning the rationale behind, what she describes as, hurriedly cutting the sword to commence the construction of the road without making funds available for the project. ..So what monies had those who quickly went to cut the sword put in place for this project? she asked.
