Kantamanto Traders Have Already Named The Arsonists Give Them The GHC 25,000 Bounty Offer

A Member of the Communications Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), wants government to honour his word by giving out the twenty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH25,000) package it announced as reward to any person who will provide information leading to the arrest of suspected arsonists to traders at the Kantamanto market. Richard Asante Yeboah, claims the traders have already provided that information and the onus now lie on government to honour his side of the bargain. Traders at the Kantamanto market have accused the NDC MP for Odododiodio, Hon Nii Lantey Vanderpuije and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Chief Executive, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije of being the cause of their woes. To him, it was untenable in the first place, for the president to believe saboteurs could be behind the rampant fires and also seek outside help from fire experts based in the United States of America to investigate the cause of the recent devastating fires. After President Mahamas last Thursdays visit to the Makola No. 2 fire scenes, he directed the state security agencies to declare a security alert at all important public buildings and installations across the country. A twenty-five thousand cedis (GHc 25,000) package was also announced to reward any person with information leading to the arrest of the suspected arsonists. Before that, the president has requested the help of fire fighting experts from the States to help ascertain the causes of these fires. But Richard Asante Yeboah believes the president is simply on a wild-goose chase. He elaborated why when contributing to discussions on AdomFM. This has been happening for a long time but no precautions have been taken to arrest the situation. The strange aspect is that, when this happens, then we start attributing it to arsonists and offering monies to help arrest them. If that is the case then the Kantamanto traders who claim Nii Lantey Vanderpuije (Odododiodio Member of Parliament) and Alfred Oko Vanderpuije (Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss should be offered the money. Is this the kind of country we want to build? A whole president of a country who himself has said foreigners are coming to investigate the cause (of the fires) now doling out monies. He (the President) has given room for Ghanaians to speculate. So if any building is razed down by fire in this country then presumably its as a result of arson? This will not help the nation, he stated.
