Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso of the Centre for International Affairs at the University of Ghana, Legon, has called on the Government to resource teachers and the Colleges of Education with the needed logistics. He said this would help promote quality teaching and learning in the country, since education was the bedrock of the nation�s development. �Teachers, who impart the needed knowledge to future leaders of the nation, should adequately be supplied with the needed teaching and learning materials, including computers, to enhance the teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools,� he said. Dr Antwi-Danso was speaking at the 60th anniversary celebration of the Abetifi College of Education in the Eastern Region. He regretted that most basic schools in the country did not have access to computers to enable them to teach pupils the practical aspects of ICT. Dr Antwi-Danso expressed worry about how the college still lacks some needed infrastructure such as bungalows for lecturers and a standby generator after 60 years of its existence and donated GH�1,000 for the purchase of a generator and urged the old students of the college to also contribute towards that goal. Mr Samuel Ansah, National Director of Teacher Training Education, said the government was putting effective and efficient measures in place to ensure the training of quality teachers for the basic school. He spoke on the theme, �Quality Teacher Education: Challenges and prospects of the tertiary status of college education.� Reverend Daniel B. Gyenantwi, Principal of the college, urged the graduates to remain committed to their profession as teachers. Ms Elizabeth Asabea, President of the Student Representative Council (SRC), appealed to the Ministry of Education to upgrade colleges of Education in the country to tertiary level to enhance quality education.
