Chairman for the Electoral Commissioner of Ghana, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan on Thursday appealed to Lead Counsel for the Petitioners, Lawyer Philip Addison, not to make him a hostage to fortune by assuming that as EC Chairman, it is mandatory for him to know about every malpractice that occurs at polling stations on the day of elections. Lawyer Philip Addison, during his cross examination exercise of the EC boss which entered Day 5 today, inquired from the witness whether he got wind of the news of first respondent [President John Mahama] directive urging the EC to allow people to vote without going through the biometric verification process. But Dr. Afari Gyan answered that he never heard of the directive until somebody drew his attention to it. Asked about what he did to curtail that alien instruction introduced during the day of election, Dr. Afari Gyan disclosed that he didn�t do anything about it because he �couldn�t change the law in the middle of the election.� Lawyer Addison prodded further and asked the witness whether he heard the interview that Asiedu Nketia granted to CitiFM which was played in the court. Dr Afari Gyan admits he heard it but cannot evaluate it. �My Lords on Election Day, I am so busy attending to problems that I don�t listen to radio stations�, he frankly said.
