An Aide of the twice defeated flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has justified the near lynching of one of its founding members, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey at the party�s headquarters in Accra, last Friday. Sticks, knifes, stones, daggers and other dangerous weapons were sent to the NPP headquarters by some hoodlums of the party, in apparent reprisal attack on Dr. Wereko-Brobby, over his many articles, the latest being the one he described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as �clueless� during his evidence in-chief at the Supreme Court hearing of the Election Petition. It took the intervention of armed Police to maintain law and order, else Dr. Wereko-Brobby, would have been injured or beaten to pulp, by the lawless mob. He had to be matched and detained in a secret room to escape the hooligans. �But for the timely action of a member of the disciplinary committee in calling the police, total chaos and violence would have been the outcome of the very shoddy and clearly conspiratorial behaviour of you [Perry Okudzeto] and your fellow managers of the party,� Dr. Wereko-Brobby, later wrote in another article. It is, however, suspected that the armed mob was organized by ex-National Youth Organizer, Anthony Karbo, who had promised Dr. Wereko-Brobby a beating of his life if he dares stepped foot in Nima, a suburb of Accra. But Curtis Perry K. Okudzeto said, the party foot soldiers that besieged the party�s offices at Asylum Down, last Friday demanding Dr. Wereko-Brobby� flesh were justified, the same way he (Dr. Brobby) thought he had the right to speak publicly against the party, without following lay down party rules. The angry supporters who thronged the party offices forcefully broke down some doors, including the particular office where the ex-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the defunct Ghana @50 boss was being questioned over his articles by the NPP�s Disciplinary Committee. Dr. Wereko-Brobby, who according to information arrived at the party�s premises at 9am in his BMW saloon car poised to meet the committee led by its chairman and ex-President of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev Samuel Asante-Antwi, was ushered into the conference room of the party to start the much-publicized meeting. Moments after his arrival, the irate party hoodlums who eyewitness said looked organized, from nowhere stormed the premises uninvited forcing the main gate opened, demanding that the embattled party stalwart be handed over to them to teach him a lesson of his life time, even before the committee hears him. The otherwise outspoken energy expert who is affectionately referred to as �Tarzan� according to insiders became helpless but was advised by members of the committee including; Gladys Asmah, Kwame Addo Kufuor, Dan Botwe, Kenwuud Nuworsu, R. O.Solomon, Sherika Ahmed to take solace in one of the rooms as the agitated supporters were making their way into the conference room. Intervention by the committee�s members could not calm the nerves of the troubled supporters as those who made their way into the venue of the meeting demanded that Dr. Wereko-Brobby be asked out of the party�s premises. Sensing danger, one of the committee�s members immediately called for the intervention of the Police who arrived at the scene with two pick-ups packed with armed officers to avert any mishap from the charged party foot soldiers. So chaos was the scene that the meeting was suspended and continued later. After the meeting, Tarzan had to cover his head with his hand and whisked away into a waiting pick-up leaving his BMW behind, which also suffered it share of the mob attack. Meanwhile, before leaving the premises of the office, Dr. Wereko-Brobby threatened he will have sued the leadership of the party if the thugs had carried out their intention to harm him since they had assured him of his safety. He subsequently issued a statement accusing Perry Okudzato and his cohorts for masterminding the attack on him. Dr. Wereko-Brobby asserted in a statement he issued last Friday titled: �Attention Mr. Perry Okudzeto�. �But for the timely action of a member of the disciplinary committee in calling the police, total chaos and violence would have been the outcome of the very shoddy and clearly conspiratorial behaviour of you [Perry Okudzeto] and your fellow managers of the party,� Dr. Wereko-Brobby asserted in a statement he issued on Friday. The energy expert in the statement expressed reservations about an interview Mr. Okudzeto granted some radio stations while the meeting with the committee was in progress. He noted: �It was instrumental that you and other managing staff at the party secretariat failed to offer adequate protection to the meeting, allowing baying and marauding youth to attempt to break down the doors and make a forcible entry into the meeting�. He said, �This was all taking place at a time when the meeting was being assured by the officials in charge that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure peace and civility during the proceedings�. Perry Okudzeto is quoted by Myjoyonline.com, in a story headlined: �Wereko-Brobby has realized his insincerity � NPP�, to have said last Friday, June 14, 2013 that Dr.Wereko-Brobby�s apology �is a step in [the] right direction�, and that: �It signifies that he has realised his folly and, therefore, if he finds it wise enough to apologise to the vice-presidential candidate and the star witness of the party, so be it.� The website also said: �Perry Okudzeto insisted that though the party has recognized the fact that he has apologized to the man in question, there are more issues to be dealt with so far as Tarzan is concerned�. However, Dr. Wereko-Brobby, popularly called Tarzan, has taken exception to Mr. Okudzeto�s interview. He said: �Your reported interview with the media on my letter to Dr. Bawumia is unfortunate as it is tactless�. �I am not sure that the party authorized you to make such a statement in the middle of meetings with the disciplinary committee, to which you were invited briefly, and at which you confirmed that you had received copies of both articles at the time that they were issued,� Dr. Wereko-Brobby asserted. �Alas conduct like yours feeds the sort of indiscipline that has afflicted the hitherto calm, civilized and tolerant manner in which the Party�s business has hitherto been conducted�, he observed. According to him, �the party of Danquah-Busia & Dombo must be rescued from folks like you who clearly have very little understanding of the founding principles of Tolerance, Diversity of Opinion, Rule of Law & Decent Conduct�. Insiders have hinted that Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, who has also been vociferous on the happenings in the NPP, is said to be also earmarked for the violent attack, similar to that of Dr. Wereko-Brobby.
