Agnes Ankrah The Wee Smuggler Grabbed

A 42-year-old woman is languishing in the cells of the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command for allegedly attempting to smuggle 42 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from Dzemeni in the Volta Region to a location at Achimota in Accra. The culprit, Agnes Ankrah, was said to have concealed the dried leaves in three sags of charcoal. She was intercepted at Kakasunaka No.1 near Michel Camp by the police while onboard a vehicle travelling from Dzemini to Accra. Chief Superintendent David Eklu, Head of Ashaiman Police Division, told Daily Guide that the police, upon a tipoff last Wednesday night, apprehended the suspect who was transporting the dried leaves in a commercial vehicle. According to him, the suspect, during interrogation admitted she bought the illicit drug at the Dzemeni Market in the Volta Region. He said the suspect was transporting the dried leaves to an undisclosed location at Achimota in Accra when police got wind of her activity. Chief Superintendent Eklu noted that the suspect would be put before court while the exhibit would be forwarded to police forensic laboratory for examination. He said his outfit would apprehend anyone who transacts such business. The Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander sternly advised all �Wee� farmers and peddlers under his jurisdiction and other parts of the country to desist from the practice or face the full rigorous of the law. He admonished the public and transport operators to identify owners of luggage onboard vehicles, as the police would arrest drivers and impound any vehicle with narcotics.
