New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Berekum East Constituency, Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah has expressed worry about news on a UK immigration policy requiring Ghanaian visitors to that country to pay �3,000 as a guarantee for their return. He sought to find out whether the amount required from the visitors will be invested by the UK officials and paid with interest when visitors return from their country as demanded. According to him, UK has benefitted immensely from Ghana over the years so it�s unacceptable for the colonial masters to rank Ghana as a �High Risk� country in recent times among other countries. �UK was our so called colonial masters and what they looted from this country, they have not even paid for and they (UK) also know the benefit they get from Ghanaians in UK. A country like Ghana and you want a single person to pay �3,000, in our currency, GHC9, 000 (90million) as a bond? ��so would they (UK) invest the money, and if they will, will they pay with interest to the visitors? I see this as absurd and I will appeal to our Ministry of Foreign Affairs or whether the head of state to talk to them. They (UK) just want to prevent Ghanaians from going to the UK,� he said. Visitors from India and other 'high risk' countries in Asia and Africa will be forced to pay �3,000 cash bond before they enter UK. The UK Home Secretary, Theresa May announced on Monday, the intention was to make the immigration system more �selective� and deter people from �overstaying� once their visitor visa has expired. The scheme will be piloted from November, for people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana. But speaking on Asempa FM, the NPP MP however suggested to the UK that if visitors refuse to return then they should �find a better way of solving this than punishing the visitors from not coming to your country. What is the use of their embassy in the countries then? This is not fair and particularly they (UK) are not been fair to Ghanaians. Even if this rule will apply to any other country, it shouldn�t be Ghana�.
