Security Is A Collective Responsibility- Commodore Addison

Commodore A.B. Addison, a retired Naval Officer, has noted that security is a collective responsibility that should be placed in the context of national, regional and international perspectives. He said although inter-state conflict has become fewer, intra-state clashes are on the ascendancy thus posing threat to the peace and security of our times. Commodore Addison made the observation during the graduation of 40 junior staff of Course 60 Intake of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra. The ceremony signifies the completion of 24 weeks of training. The retired naval officer said Ghanaians should be mindful of conflicts like chieftaincy, political rivalry and misunderstanding that tend to plague the society and affects productivity. He said Ghana Armed Forces stretched its meagre resources to organise the course to meet the training needs of its expanding human resource. Captain E.A Obese Junior was adjudged Over all Best Student, Major J.Y. Kwarteng, the Second Best Student and Major E.A.K Asamoah Third Best Student. The Junior Division of the GAFCSC formally known as the National War College was established on October, 14, 1963, with personnel from the Canadian Armed Forces Training Team and a British Army officer. The first Ghanaian to head the institution as General Staff Officer Grade I was Major J.M Nunoo-Mensah in 1970. The school is patronised by students from Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Cote Dlvoire, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Zimbabwe.
