Govt Working To Expand Road Network - Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday inspected on-going works on some roads aimed at improving traffic in the Eastern parts of the capital, Accra, and assured that work will be completed on all roads across the country. According to the President, while government is desirous of having good roads, resource constraints make it impossible to start work and also complete work on all roads at the same time. Mr. Mahama was on a tour of reconstruction works on the 5.7km Giffard Road from 37 Military Hospital to the La Palm Royal Hotel, the construction of a new 2km road linking the Giffard Road to the Spintex Road, and a new 4km road to link Burma Camp and Teshie Link around the LEKMA Hospital. The President, accompanied by Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amidu Sulemani, also directed the Ministers for Finance and Roads & Highways to fast track work on the prioritization of some roads across the country for immediate attention, while government continues to look for resources for the other roads. President Mahama noted that the completion of the Accra East roads would help ease traffic towards the Spintex Road, Labadi, Teshie, Sakumono and other areas. The three roads are under the transport sector projects dedicated towards the reduction of congestion on arterial roads and improve travel time. The Director of Urban Roads, Alhaji Abass, said the Giffard road, which is about 30% complete, will be ready in August 2014 while the Burma Camp road linking the Giffard Road to Spintex will be completed in October 2014. That project started in November last year and is currently at 34%. The Burma Camp to Teshie link road will also be completed in August 2014.
