Police Foil Attempted Arson At Tema Central Market

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cephas Arthur, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, has said the security patrol team foiled an attempted arson at the Tema Central Market at Community One on Tuesday. He said the Tema Regional Police, the Fire Service and the Metropolitan Assembly Security Guards detected the suspected arson at about 12 midnight during patrols. DSP Arthur in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, said the action of the unknown person or persons resulted in the burning of two tables. It said police preliminary investigation had revealed that the suspect or suspects lit two candle sticks, put them in a plastic bag, and set it in front of a big store in the market. According to the statement due to the vigilance of the police and the other security officers who had been patrolling the market, day and night, the fire was...put out. It said the police had instituted adequate security measures to protect markets and other vital installations from criminal attacks. The police had warned arsonists to cease their nefarious activities or would be dealt with when caught. The statement said police were making efforts to track down the attackers, and entreated the public to volunteer information on perpetrators of arson and other crimes.
