New water-testing equipments have just been introduced onto the Ghanaian market by Merck Millipore Company Limited, a pharmaceutical chemical and life service company in Germany. Spectroquant is the classified name for the equipment. It comes in various forms and sizes with similar purpose as drinking and waste water analysis equipment. The equipment are categorised under Colorimeters and Photometeters, with individual names as Spectroquant Mover 100 Colorimeter, Spectroquant PiccoColorimeter series, Spectroquant Multi colorimeter, Spectroquant Pharo 300 uv-vis, and Spectroquant Nova 60-vis. In the presentation of Mr Andrei Radu of Merck Millipore, he said the equipment, which comes with various test tubes, can be used in the testing of Aluminium, Ammonium, and Arsenic, among others. The equipment was introduced at a day�s �Drinking Water Seminar� in Accra on Tuesday. Giving his keynote address, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda noted that the equipment has come at time when Ghana is facing water pollution challenge. Citing River Pra, River Birim, and River Densu as examples, the Minister lamented on the ripple effects of illegal activities like sand winning and illegal mining on our water bodies. �According to scientists, about 85% of our body is made of water,� Mr Dauda stated, and appealed for all hands to be on deck in our bid to protect our water bodies. �Large sums of money is used in the treatment of water by the Ghana Water Company as a result of water pollution,� Mr Dauda stated, explaining further that the cost incurred goes against the consumer and only collective effort can be a remedy. A special appeal was made to the media by the Minister to be the carriers of the sensitisation crusade.
