Fire Explosion Won�t Affect Operations � Officials At Aboadze Thermal Plant

Officials at the Aboadze Thermal Plant in Takoradi, in the Western Region have downplayed the effect of Friday�s fire on their operations. The fire is reported to have started with an explosion believed to have come from an area, known as the switch yard. Fire officers stationed at the premises of the plant managed to douse the inferno. A reporter with Citi FM�s partner station Beach FM, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo visited the site and reported that a worker at the site who pleaded anonymity stated that the fire is �not anything new and it usually occurs and what has happened this morning has no effect on the power that they are transmitting from their end to other parts of the country.� This is the second time in less than a month the Thermal Plant has caught fire and the explosion is reported to have resulted in the loss of 100 megawatts of power at the Takoradi Power Station. The Plant which generates about 132 megawatts of power to feed the national grid started full operations in a March 2013.
