Out-of-jail NDC Communicator, Stephen Atubiga, has announced plans to launch a foundation to raise funds to help prison inmates across the country. Atubiga, who was released from the Akuse Prisons on Thursday July 4, said getting to experience at first hand some of the challenges prisoners go through and by eating the same food prepared for these prisoners led him to consider instituting the foundation. The charity organization to be called the �Atubiga Foundation� (AF) with the slogan �Respect The Verdict�, will be established in close partnership with the Multimedia Group Limited. It will seek to raise funds to fight the cause of prisoners who have been remanded in prison for years without their cases not been heard. �When you are there (Prison) the inmates are like brothers to you. You share what you have with them and eat what is available in-house. Though I had food outside the prison when I was visited, I ate food cooked for the inmates as well. If I did not, it would have pain me because I wanted to know and attest to the pains they are going through. I wanted to be part of the suffering they go through each and every day. ��I will soon launch my foundation�I�m going to involve the Multimedia Group so we can help inmates�.The lives of inmates now is very dear to my heart�.They are faced water problems and think I should help by providing a reservoir. So I want to collaborate with Multimedia,� he said in an interview on Asempa FM. He also advised all parties in the ongoing Election Petition to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court, a position which runs contrary to his earlier comments which landed him in jail. Mr. Atubiga was summoned by the Supreme Court for some contemptuous comments he made on the Election Petition case before the Supreme Court. He was summoned to appear the nine justices hearing the case, and despite his admission of guilt and plea for forgiveness; he was subsequently jailed for 3 days.
