Adebayor Endorses Sena Agbeko

Sena Agbeko, a world title hopeful, looks poised to achieve his dream with his impressive record and poise to succeed. Through rigorous training and discipline, the budding boxer has spent the past few years investing in his body in order to attain his 3-year target of becoming a world champion. Sena has received several celebrity endorsements including Togolese international footballer, Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor who recently invited the boxer to launch of his SEA Foundation in Lome, Togo. The young fellow is currently pursuing a Public Relations course Ghana Institute of Journalism, and hopes to become a lawyer in future. Notwithstanding the challenges associated with academics, he has so far managed to combine boxing with education effectively and efficiently. Coming from a family and community with no boxing history whatsoever made the decision to go into boxing a really hard one to make. I was torn between pursuing a purely academic path which people around me knew me for and boxing, a path I hadnt previously shown any interest in. When decision time finally came, I knew what I wanted. I wanted to be great, legendary and I didnt want my name to die out with me. So against all odds, I chose boxing, says Sena. He continues, People around me didnt discourage me but they didnt encourage me either. They observed in silence. Most of them probably thought I was doing it for the fun of it but I knew what I had up my sleeves; only me. So in October 2008, I started my first boxing lesson at the Bridge Boxing Gym under Coach Matey from Bukom and for the next six months, totally dedicated myself to it. I started out with a coach who wouldnt take no for an answer and training mates who pushed you beyond your limit. They were all better than me at the time but I wasnt bothered. I knew it would take time but with the world championship dreams I had in mind, I knew it wouldnt be long before I became of one of the best locally. Then the time came. It wasnt long after when I was drafted into the national amateur team of Ghana, the black bombers. I had to fight for a place and successfully landed a spot to represent Ghana at the World Youth Championships in Azerbaijan in April 2010. Sadly, I wasnt able to compete since I came down with a cold and a fever once we got there but the experience i got was invaluable. Senas natural urge for competition drove him to practice judo, a Japanese martial art categorized in Ghana as a lesser sport, which was one of the reasons that accounted for his switch to boxing in 2008. He left good footprints as a 73kg judo fighter to emerge as a national champion six years ago. According to him, he drew so much inspiration from Ghanas participation in the 2008 Olympics and from that day decided to represent the country at the world stage and fly the Red Yellow and Green colours with a black star high by winning Gold in future. I had Olympic dreams but my country and its coaches killed it with their favoritism and unfairness. So I finally made the decision to go professional. On the 18th of June 2011, I fought my first professional fight and won by a 2nd round knockout and since then; Ive had 14 professional fights winning all by knockout. I have a dream to be the one of the best boxers the world has ever seen and I wake up every day and work hard towards the attainment of that dream. I believe in hard work, Im dedicated, I believe in myself, I pray to God and I have a good team that trains me. With an impressive 15 fights with no defeat, he believes his values in life in general and the sport in particular- discipline, sacrifice and hard work- will help him live his dream of becoming a World Champion as prophesied by three-time World Champion Azumah Nelson. His resilience, dedication and discipline endeared him to Prince Arkutu, a successful business entrepreneur, and the CEO of Best Bargain, an electronics company. Sena won his heart after he watched him train at the Bridge Boxing Gym, Roman Ridge. Arkutu believes supporting the young boxer in terms of finances and logistics is a way of contributing Senas success story and Ghanas glory. Already, persons like David Harper, CEO of Geodrill Company Limited, and Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation among others, have played key roles in the boxers career. I have a dream to be middleweight champion of the world so i train like a champion. The road so far hasnt been easy and I know the road that lies ahead will be even more difficult. Ive had the chance of talking to Past champions of Ghana like D.K Poison, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Clottey, Alfred Kotei and the legendary Azumah Nelson and they all believe in me but at the same time, they preach hard work and dedication to the sport. When i fight, i dont worry about winning or losing because I know I train hard enough to win. I just worry about my performance; I always want to look good when I win. I believe in myself and i believe in my team and I will be middleweight champion of the world, says a hopeful Sena.
