Three suspected robbers, including two teenagers, who allegedly attacked and killed a private security man at Bantama, a Kumasi suburb, on May 20, 2013 have been arrested.
The suspects were identified as Prince Adu Gyamfi, alias Owuraku, 19; George Anaba, alias Barak, 21, and Alex Ofosu, alias Paa Kwasi, a 19-year-old student.
Owuraku is alleged to have pulled the trigger that killed Joe Adusah Eyison at the Ashfood Hotel.
While Alex Ofosu was arrested at a time his parents were making strenuous attempts to fly him to Germany, George Anaba, according to the police, was arrested at Amanfrom on the Barekese road where he had sought refuge.
The suspects are said to have led the police to retrieve two locally manufactured pistols.
Also retrieved were 11 live BB cartridges, a laptop that was stolen from the hotel and an Ipad.
Also arrested was a miner at Obuasi, identified as Michael Dasa, who told the police that he paid GH�300 for the laptop.
Tattoos on suspects
All the three suspects had tattoos (with inscriptions on their chest) when they were paraded by the police at the Kumasi Central Police Station. Prince Adu Gyamfi and George Anaba had identical tattoos which resemble a star, but with different inscriptions.
Adu Gyamfi�s inscription read, �Relax, we will fight for you� and that of Anaba read �King of New York�, but Ofosu�s tattoo which resembles a bird had no inscription. However, he had a tattoo and an inscription on the left wrist that read �I love my mum.�
Venues of arrest
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Augustine Gyenning, Prince Adu Gyamfi, the leader of the gang, lodged at the AshFood Hotel prior to the attack on May 20, 2013, making it easy for him to mastermind the operation.
He said he was the first person to be arrested in a church almost two weeks ago around Abuakwa.
Briefing the media, Mr Gyenning said as part of their investigations, the police had intelligence report that Adu Gyamfi was to worship at the Abandenden Church around Abuakwa, so they laid ambush and succeeded in arresting him.
According to Mr Gyenning, in the course of investigations, they also arrested George Anaba at Amanfrom before arresting Alex Ofosu at Kasoa, where he had sought refuge when he got wind of the arrest of the members of his gang.
He said it was when Ofosu was arrested, through the help of the Police at Kasoa, that they succeeded in retrieving the guns and cartridges used in their operations.
