About fifteen senior officers of the Ghana Prisons Service, their families and dependants were Wednesday locked out of their apartments at Fijai in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis for non-payment of rent. They were thus compelled to seek refuge with other family members and friends while they made frantic efforts to get their superiors and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to settle their indebtedness. Their angry landlord, John Kobina Addisu who supervised the lockout, told the Daily Graphic he had grown tired of fruitlessly demanding rent from the Prisons Service and his only option was to repossess the apartments until the arrears are cleared. He said accrued rent presently in arrears on the self-contained apartments amounts to GHS129,000, but several notices and warnings to the authorities to make good their side of the bargain have all fallen on deaf ears. His disdain for the manner he has been treated, he said, had to do with the fact that the Service put enormous pressure on him to complete the work, which situation forced him to take huge loans to complete the work only for them to persist in defaulting rent payment.
