A former Member of the Council of State, Mr Benjamin Asonaba-Dapaah, has urged parents to align their priorities by placing more value on the education of their children.
He said parents must do everything possible to give their children and wards reasonable level of education to assure them of a secure and better future.
He said it must not be lost on them that it was through knowledge acquisition that they could contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the nation.
He was speaking at the �Open Day� celebration of the Atwea D/A Junior High School (JHS) in the Sekyere Central District to raise funds towards the construction of a GH�150,000.00 Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre.
It was held under the theme: �Information Communication Technology (ICT), a Pre-Requisite for Educational Development�.
Mr Asonaba-Dapaah underlined the need to strengthen the teaching and learning of ICT in schools, saying that was necessary to help the country�s youth to become an effective part of globalization.
He said it was refreshing that the people had taken the initiative to build the ICT centre for the school and appealed to all to contribute their quota towards the successful completion of the project.
Mr Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong, the District Chief Executive (DCE), pledged 50 bags of cement from the Assembly to aid the construction.
He urged the teachers to work hard and with dedication to enhance the academic performance of the students.
Mr Opoku Frimpong, Assembly member for Anwanya and Adutwam electoral area, said the project was being jointly funded by the people in four communities, Atwea, Abaasua, Adutwam and Anwanya.
Mr Justice Adu Boannah, the head teacher, said the school had taken delivery of 24 laptop computers under the Better Ghana ICT project.
An amount of GH�2,000.00 was raised in support of the centre.
