Serial Car Snatcher Jailed 70 Years

A 31-year-old trader who snatched several cars within Accra, Ashaiman and Kpong has finally been convicted and sentenced to 70 years� imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Presenting the facts before the court, presided over by Justice Francis Obiri Yeboah, the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Reindorf Agyemang said between the year 2010 and 2012 the police recorded several car snatching incidents in various parts of the Accra metropolis. Similar incidents were recorded in Ashaiman and Kpong, he said. DSP Agyemang told the court that on March14, 2012 Michael and his accomplices chartered the complainant�s, Isaac Tawiah, Nissan taxi. On the way to the convict�s purported destination, the convict hit Isaac�s forehead with a hammer, dragged him out from the car and bolted. Michael and his accomplices later sold the car at Ashaiman. On April 9, 2012 Michael and his accomplices � Jordan and Kobby, now at large � attacked another complainant, Wang Ani Xiang, a Chinese businesswoman based in Tema Community 20. The complainant, according to the prosecutor, was attacked and robbed of her pump action gun with 20 packets of life ammunition, large sum of money, set of jewelleries and her Kia Cato saloon car. He said on April 13, 2012 Michael and the same accomplices attacked one George, another complainant, at Tema at gunpoint and robbed his unregistered Toyota Corolla saloon car and GH₵2,000. They sold the car for GH₵12,000 at Tema. Police, however, retrieved the vehicle. �On April 25, 2012 Michael and his accomplices attacked Mensah at Swedru, robbed him of his Kia Rio and sold it at Odumase Krobo for GH₵6,000.� In November 2011, Michael and his gang again robbed two Kia Pride vehicles from unknown persons at Dome, DSP Agyemang told the court.
