46 Drivers In Tarkwa Nsueam Fined GHC10,760

The Tarkwa Nsueam Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has prosecuted 80 drivers within one week for reckless driving and other road offenses. Out of the total, 46 were convicted and fined a total of GHC10,760, whilst 34 were warned and discharged. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) commander for the municipality, Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP), Emmanuel Honu-Broni attributed the increase in road accident to irresponsible behaviour by road users, particularly drivers, non use of seat belt, use of defective vehicles, expired insurance and driving without approved licenses. ASP Honu-Broni mentioned driving under the influence of alcohol, wrongful over taking, non observance of road signs and over speeding as other causes of road accidents. He emphasized that most road accident in Ghana is avoidable and advised all drivers to be cautious on the road to avoid the frequent accidents. The MTTU commander called on drivers in the Municipality and the nation at large to help in the promotion of road safety.
