Nurse Advises Public To Refrain From Bleaching

A Public Health Nurse at the Kenyasi Health Directorate, Juliana Amankwaah Mensah, has cautioned the public especially the youth against bleaching of their skins, which could affect their kidney and lead to cancers. She said bleaching has many health implications on the body and could cause death. Mrs Mensah gave the caution at an Educational Career Fair jointly organised by Action Aid Ghana and Centre for Maternal and Community Empowerment, CMCE, an NGO that encourages Junior High School students to learn hard to achieve their future careers at Koforidua in the Asutifi District of Brong-Ahafo Region. She observed that any hand or body lotion that could change the colour of the nail and the palm after use could cause cancer and affect the kidney. Mrs Mensah said people who bleach cannot be operated upon when the need arises. She advised that most products on the markets rather tend to affect their health adversely when used unwisely.
