In what can well be described as a clear case of a false move, Kumeko Nicholas, 29, had no other person to attempt pulling a fast one on than the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Mr Yaw Donkor. Employed as a caretaker in the Director�s house at Adenta in Accra, Nicholas had other ideas apart from his household duties. He tried to put one of those ideas into practice but as expected, it fell flat in his face and has now found himself on the wrong side of the law. An Accra Circuit Court has fined him GH�120.00 or in default serve two years in jail for causing damage and deceit of a public officer. Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police, A.A. Annor told the court that Kumeko Nicholas works in the house of the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Mr Yaw Assuah at Adenta, in Accra. At about 10:00pm, on July 1, taken advantage of the absence of his employer from the house and without his consent, Kumeko drove a Daewoo Korando with registration number GR 8969Q with two friends to a drinking spot on the Adenta-Dodowa Road to engage in the drinking spree. On their return, journey Kumeko got involved in an accident near Ashaiman, abandoned the vehicle and called the police to report that armed robbers had attacked him in the house and taken the vehicle away. Back in the house, Kumeko cut the barbed wires on the fence wall to make it look like armed robbers had scaled actually it into the house, to steal the vehicle. He later called his employer at about 2:00am next dawn to inform him about the robbery. His employer quickly organized armed men to inspect the house; Kumeko was subsequently arrested and in his caution statement, admitted the offence. Mrs Patience Mills Tetteh, presided over the court.
