Current Ghana U-20 Side Better Than Victorious 2009 Crop - Kwesi Nyantakyi

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the current Black Satellites team is better than the historic 2009 crop due to the significant rise of local-based players in the side. The team that won bronze at the just ended FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey had 16 players out of the 21-man squad drawn from leagues in Ghana representing 76.19 percent. This figure of local representation far exceeds the 10 home-based players that were paraded in the 2009 squad that won Africas first U20 World Cup in Egypt. The team in 2009 also coached by Sellas Tetteh drew most of its players from the youth and first teams of various European clubs. And it is on this basis that the GFA boss believes the much criticized current crop have performed better despite their failure to match the achievements of the 2009 squad. I think the national U20 team did very well, compared to the 2009 squad which had just about 20 percent of the players coming from the local league, he told GHANAsoccernet.com. This time around more than 75 percent came from the local league and yet they gave a very good account of themselves. It will therefore be wrong for anyone to judge the performance of the team solely based on their placing more analysis ought to be made of the team. The current squad won bronze at the just ended FIFA U20 World Cup by winning four, losing three and drawing none in the seven matches they played at the tournament. This record is against the unbeaten run of the victorious 2009 squad that won six and drew one of the seven games it played in that tournament hosted in Egypt. Both teams however produced the top scorers of their respective editions in Ebenezer Assifuah and Dominic Adiyiah in 2013 and 2009 respectively. Related Images by Taboola You May Like
