Man Shot Dead In Obuasi Suburb

A man believed to be a small scale miner has been shot dead in Samsonkrom, a suburb of Obuasi, our Ashanti Region correspondent reports. William Evans Nkum says the man is believed to have been killed by unkown assailants. Information is sketchy, admitted the Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwabena Otu Acheampong. Some people said the assailants are five while others said they are four, he said. "We call on the general public to volunteer information that will lead to their arrest," he said on TV3. Recent killings in the Ashanti Region has put fear in residents. Last week, the Ashanti Region Police Commander, ACP Augustine Gyennin, announced the arrest of killers of a security man shot dead in in May in Bantama. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan, also embarked on a tour of the Region to ensure that peace and security prevail. Thursday's killing is the second to involve a galamseyer, after a Chinese illegal miner shot dead a man at Memrewa, another suburb of Obuasi.
