Sources close to Citi News indicate that a crunch meeting between the Ministry of Transport and the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) will be held next Thursday to discuss new transport fares for drivers.
The meeting comes days after the National Petroleum Authority announced an increase in the price of petroleum products; a decision which caused much agitation among drivers of commercial vehicles across the country.
The drivers were of the opinion that though fuel prices had been increased, they were restricted from increasing their fares.
Though it is unclear what percentage of increment might be announced after the meeting, sources indicate the union will push for the addition of the operational cost of maintaining vehicles among others in determining the new transport fares.
The NPA�s review of prices of petroleum products took effect from 1st of June, pegging a gallon of petrol and diesel at GH�9.50 per whereas LPG will also go for GH�2.5.
