Sundowns down Kotoko

South Africas Mamelodi Sundowns clinched a 2-0 win over Asante Kotoko in an international friendly at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday. The match formed part of the pre-season training tour of the South African team in Ghana. Mamelodi went ahead through an own goal scored by Kotokos Smallboy Cobbah, who in a desperate attempt to clear Elias Pelembes in-swinger found the back of his own net in the 48th minute. Gingered by this goal, the South African side, who were a pale shadow of themselves in the first half, and led by veteran Teko Modese, probed for more and in the process mounted series of attacks to break the Kotoko defence. However, the determined Kotoko defence centred around Kofi Agyare, Joseph Ochaya and Cobbah, warded off most of the attacks. Kotoko made some substitutions in the course of the game, but this did not change the complexion of the encounter except an 80th minute strike by substitute Jafaru Samed which was saved by Zambian international goalkeeper, Kennedy Mweene. Two minutes later, Mamelodi sealed victory through Bongani Zungu from a swift counter-attack initiated at the left flank by midfield dynamo, Raymond Monamo.
